In our very own neighborhood you can admire old relics and hear old stories at Cowan Railroad Museum, browse through our specialty shops, experience fine dining and good atmosphere in our local restaurants, and even visit with the locals to learn more about our small town way-of-life!
Just a few miles beyond Cowan, there's plenty more to enjoy. The University of the South at Sewanee offers year round cultural events, from the Sewanee Summer Music Festival to the Advent Service of Lessons and Carols. Theatre and musical productions are regularly offered, in addition to attractions at the local art galleries. You may also wish to visit the hiking trails and scenic overlooks in the immediate area.
Falls Mill in nearby Old Salem is an active grist mill with a 32-foot overshot water wheel. See all kinds of old mill equipment on display, and visit the gift shop for some authentic Falls Mill cornmeal or grits.
Winchester offers a selection of specialty shops downtown, and is home to the Old Jail Museum with a vast collection of local relics and photos.
Further down the road you will find Tims Ford State Park with an extensive network of trails for walking and biking, a small marina, picnic areas, and a most appealing Bear Trace golf course.
Lynchburg, Tennessee is home of the world-famous Jack Daniel's Distillery that offers year-round tours and other neat attractions. Downtown Lynchburg offers numerous specialty stores, restaurants, and year-round events.
Chattanooga, Tennessee, about an hour's drive from Cowan, is one truly fine small city. Downtown you will find everything from Chattanooga Choo-Choo to the Tennessee Aquarium to the Tivoli Theater. Fine dining and excellent shopping are everywhere to be found, and there's no better place to relax and enjoy the scenery than Coolidge Park and the Walnut Street walking bridge. Above this incredible city you will find the Incline Railway, Lookout Mountain, and Ruby Falls. Oh, and don't forget to "See Rock City".
